No owner inscrptn,and no price-clip to dw/dj.Bright, crisp,clean,glossy,wrap-around colour seascape background with two colour tan+white bordered colour illustrated panel to front of dw/dj - an auk-like creature and a crab on rocks of a seashore - with capitalised,white-lettered title and author+illustrator names respectively.A pale blue spine/backstrip with capitalised,black-lettered author+illustrator surnames; title and the publisher's name with black illustrated colophon towards foot of same,rear panel of dw/dj with plain undecorated seascape scene illustration.Negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - front's corner tips minisculely rubbed,the lower corner with tiny peel and loss, along with miniscule rubbing at foot of spine too - but no other nicks,tears or splits present and virtually scoring/indent free.Top+fore-edges bright,crisp and clean without foxing/spotting; contents bright,tight and clean - pristine with no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners,appears unread apart from my own collation.Publisher's bright,crisp,clean/unblemished,sharp-cornered,glazed,coloured boards with repeated dw/dj illustration but with capitalised,black-lettered title and author+ illustrator names respectively,as opposed to the white on dw/dj and immaculate,repeated mottled dusky-pink illustrated endpapers.UK,Landscape 8vo HB+dw/dj,illustrated,1st edn,48pp [unpaginated] includes colour thumbnail illustrated half-title with dedication to verso, thumbnail colour illustrated title page,a double-page coloured seascape illustration at front (a frntis?) and similarly at the rear as last pages,the rest of the book featuring large, bold print opposite full-page sea and sand-toned watercolors hatched illustrations by Patrick Benson. Visually,the external appearance is still exceptional,and particularly internally,is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of it's 25 year-old age and nature, i.e. a children's jacketed book.It is only the minimal faults described preventing  a slightly higher grading.Despite that,it really is still an exceptional,exemplary example for it's brightnesss, cleanliness and lack of other or age-acquired detracting faults commonly encountered in a child's book of a comparable age.                                            A "sea-thing child" washes ashore on a pebbly beach, "a little draggled heap of fright." He builds an impenetrable igloo of sea stones around himself but eventually emerges to develop a cantankerous friendship with a fiddler crab. Becoming restless,the sea-thing child converses with an eel and an albatross,both of which confidently head out to sea,but the ocean remains an enemy to the storm-battered creature. Finally,the wisdom he's absorbed,the goading of his crab companion,and a restless night conspire to awaken his latent destiny and he flies into the wind and over the waves to discover "Whatever there is!"        Patrick Benson studied at the Chelsea Art School and St Martin's School of Art.He first entered the world of book illustration with William Mayne's 'Hob Stories' in 1984,for which he won the Mother Goose Award.Since then he has continued to illustrate other people's stories, as well as his own.He received world-wide accolades for his interpretation of Roald Dahl's final book,'The Minpins' (see my book ID's rja26467, rja32168, rja393911 and rja416912),and he also illustrated the two J. R.
